Here are a few of our home school activities from the Spring.

In April we happened to be studying about the beginnings of the Revolutionary War. It was my turn to teach and I thought it would be much more fun to reenact the battle of Lexington and Concord then merely study it. So we invited Carter's Bear Den and the kids and I did our best to create the countryside of Massachusetts in our back yard. It was a fun adventure. Hazzah!

 Our home school buddy Amanda arranged for us to go and see a real Observatory in Cedar City owned by SUU. We were able to talk to a real astronomy professor,  and view stars with really powerful telescopes. It was a cool evening.

 To help my kids see more relevancy in math and how we use it all the time I gave them an assignment. Each of us had 12 pieces of gum. We wanted to see how many times you have to chew before the gum is soft. We each recorded our results and then used our math skills to find the average number of chews. By the end we were sick, our tongues were pink, our jaws were sore, and bubble gum was not desirable. But we used our math.

 Another math activity. I gave the kids the Sunday ads from various stores, a part of a home to furnish and a budget. Girls had bathrooms and the kitchen, boys had all electrical appliances (washer, fridge, computer, TV, microwave etc). They then shopped around in the ads, cut out their purchases and came up with a shopping list. It was fun for them as they like to look in the Sunday paper.
